66 AC amps, 16,000-watt surge capacity, front-panel volt and amp meters, and four AC outlets — a redesigned 8000W inverter that runs heavier loads from most standard 12V vehicle or battery systems without modification.
The AIMS Power 8000 Watt Modified Sine Wave Inverter (PWRINV8KW12V) converts 12V DC battery power to 120V AC at a sustained 8000 watts with 16,000-watt peak surge capacity — enough to start large motors, compressors, and power tools that smaller inverters simply cannot handle. This redesigned model is smaller, lighter, and more efficient than its predecessor, while retaining the output capacity and real-world durability that AIMS Power's 8000W platform is known for. Front-panel volt and amp meters give you live battery and load monitoring, and the inverter is pre-wired for an optional remote switch so you can operate it from anywhere in your vehicle or installation.
The redesigned PWRINV8KW12V packs 8000 watts of continuous output into a compact, space-saving aluminum chassis — with the monitoring tools and protection features needed to run demanding loads all day.
Sustain 8000 watts of continuous AC output with 16,000 watts of surge capacity (for 40ms) — delivering the startup headroom large compressors, saws, drills, and motors demand.
At up to 66 AC amps, this inverter powers loads that fall well beyond the reach of 5000W and 6000W units — multiple heavy tools, large refrigeration equipment, or whole-cabin power from a single inverter.
Front-panel volt and amp meters display battery voltage and DC current draw in real time — so you know exactly how hard your battery bank is working and how much runtime you have at any load.
90% efficient at full load and 95% at one-third load, with a no-load idle draw under 1.3A — this redesigned model extracts more usable power from your battery bank than its predecessor.
Operates from any standard 12V vehicle or battery system — no expensive electrical upgrades required. A purpose-built battery bank is recommended at this power level, but the vehicle's 12V architecture needs no changes.
The PWRINV8KW12V comes pre-wired for an optional remote on/off switch — letting you power it on and off from the cab of a vehicle or a remote control panel without reaching the unit. A pre-slotted mounting plate in the rugged aluminum case allows permanent bolted installation on walls, floors, or vehicle frames. The single thermally controlled cooling fan only engages when the inverter's temperature requires it, keeping operation quiet during lighter loads.
Built-in over-temperature protection (auto shutdown at 140°F / 60°C), overload protection, AC output short-circuit protection, and internal fuse protection guard the inverter and connected equipment. Front-panel LED indicators signal over-temperature and overload conditions before shutdown. Most faults trigger an automatic reset once the condition clears — no manual reset required in most cases.

At 8000W continuous from a 12V battery, the DC current draw exceeds what a single set of 4/0 AWG cables can safely carry. Two parallel cable sets (2 positive + 2 negative) split the total current between them, keeping each cable within safe thermal limits. A single set of cables — even 4/0 AWG — would overheat at sustained full-load current. This is a hard installation requirement, not a recommendation.
At 8000W from a 12V bank, DC current draw is extremely high — in the range of 700–800A at full load. A large deep-cycle AGM or lithium battery bank (500Ah or more at 12V) with very short, heavy cable runs is needed for meaningful sustained runtime. Multiple batteries wired in parallel to build capacity and reduce internal resistance is the typical approach. Two 500A ANL inline fuses (one per positive cable) are recommended to protect the wiring.
At 8000W continuous you can run most large household and commercial loads — multiple power tools simultaneously, large refrigerators and freezers, air conditioning units (check startup surge requirements), microwave ovens, water pumps, compressors, and more. Modified sine wave works well for most resistive and motor-driven loads. Some variable-speed drives, certain medical equipment, laser printers, and audio equipment may not perform optimally. Each individual outlet is UL-rated for 1500W; the AC terminal block can carry the full 8000W for hardwired loads.
The 16,000W surge capacity is available for approximately 40 milliseconds — just long enough to handle the high inrush current that motors, compressors, and pumps draw during startup. It is not a sustained output level. Once the load reaches its running wattage (which should be at or below 8000W), the inverter drops back to its continuous output range. Size your load selection based on the 8000W continuous rating, not the surge figure.
Yes — this inverter connects to any standard 12V vehicle battery system without requiring modifications to the vehicle's factory wiring. However, at 8000W the DC current draw is very high, so a dedicated deep-cycle battery bank (separate from the vehicle's starting battery) is strongly recommended. The vehicle's alternator is not designed to sustain the charge rate needed to replenish this level of draw during normal operation; a solar charge controller or shore power charger should be part of any sustained-use system.
The PWRINV8KW12V is pre-wired with a port for an optional remote on/off switch, allowing you to turn the inverter on and off from a panel or dash location without accessing the unit directly — useful when it's mounted in a storage bay, under a bed, or in a utility compartment. The compatible AIMS Power remote switch is sold separately.
The inverter includes over-temperature protection (auto shutdown at 140°F / 60°C), overload protection, AC output short-circuit protection, internal fuse protection, high-voltage protection (15–17V range), and low-voltage alarm (10.5V) and shutdown (10.0V). Front-panel LEDs indicate over-temperature and overload conditions. Most faults trigger an automatic reset once the condition clears — for example, once the unit cools down or an overload is removed — without requiring manual intervention.
This inverter is backed by a 2-year manufacturer warranty from date of purchase against manufacturer defects, plus free lifetime technical support from AIMS Power's tech team. As an authorized AIMS Power dealer, TrueStead Supply ensures your warranty is valid from day one.
