Automatic Shore-to-Battery Switching in Under 20ms — UL 458 Certified Pure Sine Power for Residential RV Refrigerators

1200W continuous pure sine output with a built-in 10A automatic transfer switch — when shore power drops, your fridge, microwave, and sensitive electronics keep running on battery without interruption.

The AIMS Power 1200 Watt Pure Sine Inverter with Transfer Switch (PWRIX120012SUL) is a hardwire-only inverter built for RV and mobile power systems running residential-style refrigerators, small microwaves, coffee makers, and sensitive electronics. ETL Certified to conform to UL 458 standards — including the Hi-Pot (High Voltage Dielectric Withstand) test at 1,250 VAC — this inverter passes shore power straight through to your connected loads when available, then automatically switches to clean 1200W pure sine battery power in under 20 milliseconds if shore power is lost. No manual switching, no extra wiring, no interruption to your appliances.

Important: This is a hardwire-only inverter — it must be permanently wired using the direct-connect terminal block; it does not have AC outlets. The built-in transfer switch bypass/throughput is limited to 10 amps — do not exceed this, as it may cause damage and void the warranty. AC input is not recommended for use on a GFCI circuit.

Key Features & Benefits

The PWRIX120012SUL combines certified safety, automatic switching, and marine-grade durability into a hardwire-ready package built for permanent RV and mobile installations.

UL 458

ETL Certified, Hi-Pot Tested

ETL Listed and conforming to UL 458 standards. Every unit passes a Hi-Pot (High Voltage Dielectric Withstand) test at 1,250 VAC before leaving the factory — verifying insulation integrity for long-term electrical safety.

<20ms

Automatic Transfer Switch

When shore power is present, it passes straight through to your loads. If shore power is lost, the built-in 10A transfer switch automatically switches to battery power in under 20 milliseconds — fast enough to keep most appliances running without a noticeable interruption.

1200W / 2400W

Continuous + Surge Output

1200 watts of continuous pure sine power with 2400-watt surge capacity — enough for residential-size RV refrigerators, small microwaves, coffee makers, and sensitive electronics.

Conformal Coated

Marine-Grade Board Protection

The circuit board is conformal coated to protect against moisture and corrosion — built to handle the humidity and condensation common in marine and RV installations.

10A Bypass

Shore Power Passthrough

The transfer switch bypass/throughput supports up to 10 amps of shore power passthrough when AC input is present — keeping your loads running on shore power without drawing from the battery.

86–90%

Efficient Pure Sine Conversion

86–90% efficiency with an intelligent thermally controlled cooling fan that runs only as needed — keeping the unit quiet and conserving battery power during light use.

How the Automatic Transfer Switch Works

Once hardwired into your system, the PWRIX120012SUL manages shore and battery power automatically — no switches to flip, no extra wiring beyond the initial installation.

  1. Shore power connected: AC input from shore power or a generator passes through the inverter to your connected loads — up to 10 amps of bypass/throughput.
  2. Shore power lost: The transfer switch detects the loss and automatically switches your loads to the inverter's battery-powered pure sine output in under 20 milliseconds.
  3. Shore power restored: The transfer switch automatically switches back to passthrough mode, and the inverter returns to standby.

Who the AIMS Power 1200W Transfer Switch Inverter Is For

  • RV owners with residential-size refrigerators who need automatic battery backup so the fridge keeps running when shore power or generator power is interrupted.
  • Mobile business operators running microwaves, coffee makers, and sensitive electronics that need uninterrupted clean power during power source transitions.
  • RV manufacturers and upfitters who need a UL 458 certified, hardwire-installed inverter with transfer switch for OEM installations.
  • Marine installers who need a conformal-coated inverter with transfer switch capable of handling humid onboard environments.
  • Installers and electricians who prefer a permanent hardwire installation over a plug-in inverter for cleaner, more integrated power systems.

AIMS Power 1200W Transfer Switch Inverter — Frequently Asked Questions

Does this inverter have AC outlets I can plug into?

No. The PWRIX120012SUL is a hardwire-only unit — it has no AC outlets. It must be permanently wired into your electrical system using the direct-connect terminal block by a qualified installer. This design is intended for permanent RV, marine, or mobile installations where the inverter sits inline between shore power and your AC distribution panel or specific appliances.

Will this run a residential-size RV refrigerator?

Yes — this is one of the primary use cases for this inverter. Residential refrigerators typically run between 100–200W continuously with a brief compressor startup surge, well within this inverter's 1200W continuous and 2400W surge capacity. The automatic transfer switch ensures the refrigerator keeps running on battery power if shore power or generator power is interrupted, protecting your food from spoilage during outages.

What does the 10-amp bypass/throughput limit mean?

When shore power is connected, AC current passes through the inverter to your loads at up to 10 amps — this is the bypass or throughput rating. This limit applies regardless of whether the inverter itself is switched on or off. Exceeding 10 amps of passthrough current may damage the unit and void the warranty. Make sure the total load connected downstream of the inverter does not exceed 10 amps when on shore power.

Why isn't this recommended for a GFCI circuit?

The inverter's internal grounding and switching behavior during transfer events can sometimes cause a GFCI breaker to trip even when there's no actual ground fault, due to the way current paths shift during the transfer. AIMS Power notes that the AC input is not recommended for use on a GFCI circuit. Consult a qualified electrician for the correct wiring approach for your specific installation and local code requirements.

What is the Hi-Pot test and why does it matter?

The Hi-Pot (High Voltage Dielectric Withstand) test is a UL 458 requirement where each unit is tested with a voltage equal to 1,000V plus two times the line voltage rating — 1,250 VAC for this 120VAC inverter. This test verifies that the insulation between live components and the chassis can safely withstand voltage spikes without breaking down, confirming long-term electrical safety. Every PWRIX120012SUL unit is individually Hi-Pot tested before leaving the factory.

What does the optional remote switch (REMOTEHF) do?

The REMOTEHF is a flush-mount remote on/off switch sold separately. It lets you control the inverter from a convenient panel location away from the unit itself — useful since this inverter is typically installed in a less accessible compartment. It also includes dip switches that let you black out the indicator LEDs if you prefer a darker panel display, such as in a bedroom.

What warranty and support come with this inverter?

This inverter is backed by a 2-year manufacturer warranty from date of purchase, plus free lifetime technical support from AIMS Power's tech team. As an authorized AIMS Power dealer, TrueStead Supply ensures your warranty is valid from day one.
